Well, today’s biggest news is that Sophia said “Mama” several times. She was babbling/fussing while I was rocking her to try to get her down for a nap, but I think it still counts! There also seemed to be na-na-na thrown in there too (Grandma said she’d be happy to be called NaNa). A couple of days ago, she said BaBa once in her crib (that must be “Baby Zoe”). 🙂

The other update is that I did call the nurse this morning about Zoe’s grunting, and she thought we should come in. We happened to be able to get in to see one of Sophia’s primaries (who isn’t supposed to be taking new patients). The nurse came in right when we got there to say that she’d decided it would be okay for this doctor to accept Zoe too, which is great. She took a look at our diaper sample and was not concerned at all. She explained that Zoe’s diapers would be different than Sophia’s because Sophia had that formula fortifier that would have changed her digestion, etc. I’ve been trying so hard not to be the obsessive second time Mama, so I was a little chagrined to hear that it was completely normal, but, of course, also relieved (and I did check with the nurse before making the appointment). I guess Zoe’s digestive system just has to mature, so we’ll continue to try to help her get rid of her gas and hope that helps. It’s just sad to see her so uncomfortable.

We also discovered at this visit that Zoe has gained almost 2 pounds in less than 3 weeks (not counting the 7 ounces she lost after birth)! She’s gone from 7 pounds, 9 ounces, up to 9 pounds, 7 ounces! The doctors say they want them to gain back their birth weight in 10 days and then gain 1/2 to 1 ounce a day from then on. Zoe’s up to 2 ounces a day, but the doctor said that was great. It took months for Sophia to get up to 9 1/2 pounds, so this is a whole new ride…

Since Sophia just got to come along for the trip and didn’t have to undress for a weight check or anything, she got to dress up in a pretty dress for a change. Papa ended up dressing her because I was feeding Zoe, and he yelled down to me: “If you ever want these girls to wear tights again, you’ll have to put them on yourself, I have no idea what I’m doing!” It should have been no surprise to find that one of her feet had the toe line on the bottom and the heel line on the top… Now he thinks that those tights with the funny lace on the butt are okay after all because at least he knew which side to put toward the back!

    Happy Birthday Sophia!!!!

Wow one year. Her new photos show what a young lady she has become. She is so sweet.

Zoe is beautiful also. Its good to see you guys are keeping a sense of humor about it all. Because you just have to laugh sometimes at all they put you through and no one told you about this…haha. Not fair huh.

I am with John on the tights though. They sell ruffled underpants for little girls.

Hope you all have a great day on Sophia’s birthday.

  2. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOPHIA!!!!!! What a big girl you are. Did you get to dig your hands into some chocolate cake???? What a year you’ve had – and so many more with your brand new sister and fun parents!!!

  3. Happy birthday to Sophia 🙂 I’m sure you are a very happy little girl getting a new baby sister just in time to celebrate your first birthday. She will watch you and learn all about how birthdays go. I’m sure your mama and papa will do something very special for you today too!
